This exotic and elaborate
jewelry ensemble was commissioned by Lisa Irwin of
BlueLorelei fame. She wanted a fantasy piece that would
evoke images of bellydance, and Art Nouveau and Indonesian
design. She sent me
wonderful sketches of her
ideas over which she gave me free reign. Since her drawings
suggested a necklace that encompassed the entire front of
the body and around the shoulders, I worked directly on the
doll, draping chain interspersed with gemstone beads:
garnet, amber, and moonstone, along with freshwater pearl
and crystal. After 6 months of working on the piece off and
on, the result was what I "christened" Vision of Salomé, due
to the fact that the risqué design would be worn on a nude
torso. The 8-piece ensemble was sent to Lisa, packaged in a
mini brass and wood box, and within a few weeks,
Sheherazade, an enchanting
Violet Waters repaint, was born. |
